In a collaboration between Culturgest, Theatro Circo, and Amplificasom, avant-garde icon Diamanda Galás will return to Portugal in February 2026 for three highly anticipated performances:
-
February 11 – Culturgest, Lisbon
-
February 14 – Theatro Circo, Braga
-
February 18 – Casa da Música, Porto
Renowned for her unparalleled vocal range and uncompromising artistic vision, Diamanda Galás stands as one of the most powerful and distinctive voices in contemporary music. Her performances transcend the boundaries of genre and form, merging the sacred and the profane — a fusion of ritual, lament, and confrontation where music becomes a transformative and cathartic experience.

The upcoming Portuguese dates coincide with the release of two significant new works in Galás’s extensive career. On November 1, 2025 — All Saints’ Day — she will unveil a remastered reissue of her 1988 masterpiece You Must Be Certain of the Devil, alongside the release of De-formation: Second Piano Variations, a live recording captured at the Pinault Gallery in Paris during an intimate candlelit performance in the spring of 2025.
Since founding her own label, Intravenal Sound Operations, in 2017, Galás has entered one of her most prolific periods of creativity. Her recent output includes De-formation: First and Second Variations (2019, 2025) and Broken Gargoyles (2022), alongside her ongoing live project Das Fieberspital (The Fever Hospital) — further proof of her enduring status as one of the most visionary and fearless figures in modern art and music.
Born in San Diego, Diamanda Galás grew up immersed in both classical and jazz traditions, performing gospel with her father’s choir and appearing as a soloist with the San Diego Symphony at just fourteen. Since her groundbreaking debut The Litanies of Satan (1982), she has forged an extraordinary body of work exploring the themes of illness, exile, genocide, and the human condition through albums such as The Divine Punishment, Saint of the Pit, and Broken Gargoyles.
Her collaboration with John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on The Sporting Life (1994) and her later performance installations have continued to expand her impact far beyond conventional musical boundaries. Over four decades into her career, Diamanda Galás remains a singular force — merging spirituality with confrontation, beauty with darkness.
These three performances in Lisbon, Braga, and Porto will mark the beginning of her new international tour, reaffirming her as one of the most striking and uncompromising performers of our time.
