Necrophobic could be compared to those 18th century diplomats who casually bargained with different sides, never taking a precise position. For Necrophobic these two positions are of course Death and Black Metal.
“Mark Of The Necrogram” is the band’s 8th release and the 1st one under Century Media label. This album is special for this Swedish band since it marks the return of Anders Strokirk as vocalist, Sebastian Ramstedt and Johan Bergebäck on guitars. It also denotes a shifting towards a more Black metal tremolo guitar working over the crunchier Death metal.
After the first couple of songs, names such as Dissection (in primis) or very early At The Gates and Darkthrone come to mind for their uncommon practice of living on that invisible borderline separating Black from Death metal, tilting like a pendulum towards both or them.
Common denominator is melody, not in a cheesy way but rather as a catalyst to perfectly blend all the features in each song, which are many. Take the song Pesta, for instance: rich in melodies and yet not lacking at all in aggressiveness, never too fast and focusing primarily on rhythms.
Mark Of The Necrogram might not be the big thing of 2018 but it serves as a mild warning to those who thought Necrophobic was dead and buried.
