In a weekend marked by the XVI edition of the mythical SWR Barroselas Metal Fest, Side B profited the presence of some international bands to host one parallel gig at Benavente.

No one expected a full venue, so the few people present that night build the right atmosphere for an uncompromising metal night.

Firstly with nationals GENNOMA, presenting their modern death metal, filled with lots of groove and slam and mixed with a screamo voice execution. Good paced themes, with some faster appointments here and then, in our first contact with a new band that proved not to be behind their foreign colleagues. At the limelight was the bassist that flooded the stage with a vibrant attitude.

Then AGGRENATION came to shake everyone’s mind and body, once their fucked-up crust raised the intensity levels, promising more sweaty tears in a more crowded venue.

Fast, furious, dirty and rotten crust-metal, with the right punk attitude, presented by a Portuguese speaking vocals. After the show we talked to them about the underground feeling of SWR Barroselas (where they were going to play the day after) and it was interesting  to see how committed their were to profit from that environment and “to see Possessed”, they sad.

After three brutal shows in Portugal, we are sure that their return will be demanded in a new future.

SCIENCE OF DEMISE came on stage when everybody was already in the right agitation level, and so their death metal had everything to work right that night. Good percussion exhibition, even if some experimental approaches didn’t seem to fit exactly in the pace of some themes. It was the faster parts that made the front of their presentation card, benefitting from a sweaty, hard drums work.

For the final act, PNEUMA came still with Barroselas hangover syndrome (where they seem to have forgotten their Costa Rica flag), for a thrash metal closure. It was somewhat difficult to glue their sound to any noticed influences (which is positive for them), even if one or two songs seemed to be starting with Kreator based riffs.  The sound quality was perfect, with crystalline guitars and strong bass drums, and so this costa riquen collective could present a good thrash metal concert, that they dedicated to all the bands that, like them, made the story of one more underground international night at Side B.
