Old school thrash metal with a lot of punk influences anyone? That’s the proposal of Municipal Waste’s new album “Slime and Punishment”, another crossover fast and straight forward record of 30 minutes length that symbolizes their return in 5 years, after their last LP release “The Fatal Feast (Waste In Space)”.
The listener can expect the same formula from previous records of the band, which present new corrosive songs like “Breathe Grease”, “Enjoy the Night”, “Dingy Situations”, “Shrednecks”, “Poison the Preacher”, “Bourbon Discipline”, “Parole Violators”, and “Slime and Punishment”. These tracks are some of the best examples of an album that doesn’t innovate or evolves much the sound of the band. However, that is actually something that might or might not be what the listener is looking for, when you put on something like this. It could go either way.
Sometimes less is more, and despite the chewing gum effect of the album, it has some breaking neck moments, as well as some hilarious lyrics. Well produced and mixed, this album might not be their best effort, but it’s still a good album, with a lot of good riffs, and songs that will definitely work live, which is one of the main strengths of these kinds of bands. Although after a few times, it becomes just one more record in the band’s discography.
