Alice Cooper don’t need any introduction, but what most amazes when it comes to an artist like this, it’s the longevity of his career, and the amount of releases that give actual meaning to the word career. “Paranormal” is his 27th album, that transports the listener to the sinister shock rock world full of ghouls and fantastic activity. Tracks like “Paranormal” featuring Roger Glover, “Fireball”, and “Dynamite Road”, are great entry points for this album. Although it’s not going to be an instant classic it’s a pretty solid album. Able to grab the listener by the neck and sink his head into the atmosphere of the record.
The next tracks in the album show what the band of Alice Cooper does best, classic flamboyant and loose rock. This is what you can hear in songs like “Private Public Breakdown”, “Rats”, the melancholic “The Sound of A”, “Genuine American Girl”, and the brilliant ending track “You and All of Your Friends”.
It’s a jetliner record, somehow radio friendly, with no lo-fi garage rock, no weird new wave, no real curveballs, a little bit bluesy sometimes, with good moments, and the characteristic voice of rock’s favorite villian on point. It’s the theatrical soundtrack to the nightmare to come, but never leaves aside the fact that Alice Cooper is a rock artist, with surprisingly still plenty to give and knowing how to deliver a good time to the listener.
