Lisbon’s metal titans MOONSPELL have announced the release of Opus Diabolicum, a monumental live recording that captures one of the most ambitious moments of their three-decade career. The album, arriving on October 31, 2025, immortalises the band’s collaboration with the Orquestra Sinfonietta de Lisboa, recorded at a sold-out performance at the MEO Arena in October 2024.
Conducted by maestro Vasco Pearce de Azevedo, with orchestral arrangements by Filipe Melo, the concert brought together 45 classical musicians and Portugal’s most iconic metal act for a one-of-a-kind encounter between symphonic grandeur and gothic intensity.
The result, now preserved on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital formats via Napalm Records, showcases MOONSPELL at their most expansive and evocative, blurring the boundaries between extreme metal and classical composition. The upcoming release includes special editions and exclusive visual material yet to be revealed.
The choice of date is no coincidence: Halloween has long been intertwined with MOONSPELL’s identity and mythology. To mark the occasion, the band will also perform live on October 31 at LAV – Lisboa Ao Vivo, sharing the stage with Sweden’s Dark Tranquillity in an event aptly titled Halloween United.

Returning after a brief hiatus from their annual Halloween tradition, the concert promises a double celebration — the official launch of Opus Diabolicum and a gathering of two of Europe’s most enduring metal forces. Supporting them are Sinistro, whose cinematic, atmospheric metal — released through Fernando Ribeiro’s own Alma Mater Records — will add an extra layer of depth to the night.
Since their early “Vampire Ball” appearances at Porto’s Fantasporto Festival, MOONSPELL have turned Halloween into a hallmark event of Portugal’s dark music scene. The 2025 edition continues that legacy, offering fans not just a concert, but a ritual of gothic communion.
