The new album “Walls of Vanaheim” of the Germanic Pagan band Black Messiah, it’s a concept record, that tells the tale of The Aesir/Vanir War, and it’s a continuation of their 2009′s record “First War of The World”.
The album has a lot of interludes to prepare the listener for the upcoming track, and the band has used them smartly to link the songs, telling a tale like if the listener was listening to a movie and imagining the images in his head. Songs like “Mimir’s Head”, “Mime’s Tod”, “Die Bürde des Njörd”, “The Walls of Vanaheim”, “Kvasir”, and the ending “Epilogue: Farewell”, are some of the songs that stand out the most on the midsts of this epic tales.
Talking about epic, the listener can find in here the typical sound of the band, with some epic orchestrations, and a little bit of folk here and there. The production is somewhat raw, but the sound of this band always dwelled in between the melodic folk, and the brutality of the riffs, sometimes fast, sometimes more mid-tempo.
Due to their unorthodox approach, somehow from all those bands of Pagan metal that exploded in the last decade, Black Messiah did maintain their quality, and they prove in this new record that they’re a good band, and the listener despite the fact that this might not be their best effort, will hear a good record.
