Does anybody out there miss the old days of Moonsorrow with some old Bathory from the end of the 80’s? Well, the listener might find in this album what he is looking for. The Pagan Black Metal band Havukruunu presents this in their new album “Kelle Surut Soi”. This is a tale so gloomy, epic, and dark, that almost feels like hearing the soundtrack of a black metal based movie where everything leads into a sad lonely end with a hard ride through a thick darkness.

Songs like “Jo Näkyvi Pohjan Portit”, “Vainovalkeat”, “Noidanhauta”, “Vainajainvalot” and “Vaeltaja” are some of the best examples of how this genre can also provide you a earbug. The album will transport the listener to a desolate scenario, consequence of a battle in the the most terrifying fields of winter. The album comprises great driving riffs, some Viking atmospheric choirs and melodic acoustic guitars alongside with vocals as sick as angry. All this makes you experience the Finnish melancholy with the guitars brutality shattering all the hope left.

The Finnish duo, Stefan and Noitavalo, show in this record a symbiosis hard to match. Definitely all the fans of Pagan metal, and Black metal in general, will discover in this album a journey hard to find in any other record of the genre released this year.

7/10
