Stratovarius is one of those bands that raises the power metal flag really high up, along with talent and something divine and epic behind their music. So the question, is “Eternal” up to that standard? Yes, now that the newcomers in the band are already fit to what this band stands for, the songs flow really nicely trough out the record, and the voice of Kotipelto is always a pleasure to listen to, carried by such great musicians. Altough, apart of the previous records we don’t find in here a one big hit, but a more consistent album with tracks like “My Eternal Dream”, “Shine In The Dark”, “Rise Above It”, “Lost Without A Trace”, “Feeding The Fire”, and “Few Are Those”. Seems that there’s a concept behind all these songs, an idea of something eternal is here to keep or to come, a theme quite typical when it comes to power metal bands.
The finnish power metal masters didn’t innovate, but didn’t left their credits out on wrong hands, and what we have here is something really enjoyable to listen to.
