At the fourth album, “Bringer of Pain”, Battle Beast establish themselves as a force in heavy metal. They bring to the genre some new elements that they have been testing and maturing in their previous records.
In this release they present some really nice, catchy, and efficient tracks. A clear evolution in Noora Louhimo voice is noticeable, sounding better than ever in this record. While the songs construction didn’t change much, they seem somehow more direct and sharp, with the hard touch characteristic of heavy metal. The melodic lines are still the basis of the band sonority, with Janne Björkroth keyboards giving them the 80’s touch. Complemented with the brilliant guitars of Juuso Soinio and Joona Björkroth.
Songs like “Straight to the Heart”, “Bringer of Pain”, “King for a Day”, “Beyond the Burning Skies”, “Familiar Hell”, “Lost in Wars” (with Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis) and “Bastard Son of Odin”, will please the listener. You can find in this record a very organic setlist, with something tremendously different from most of the common heavy metal. Many different influences, mainly from the 80’s, can be identified in this this album. Ranging from the most popular to the most underground, all very well mixed and balanced in a cocktail that will wake up the listener senses.
Able to bring memories from classic heavy metal bands with a modern sound and well written lyrics. Although, the listeners that don’t appreciate the pop melodies in their tracks, might get mixed feelings about this release or towards the band formula. Independently of your favourite genre this is in its overall a great record.
