The Brazilian thrashers Nervosa are back with their second album “Agony”. Counting with a formation composed by women (Fernanda Lira on vocals / bass, PrikaAmaral guitars / back vocals, and PitchuFerraz on drums), they present to us a strong thrash record about society flaws, social revolt, and political issues without going very into deep, but presenting the big picture of what’s happening nowadays from their point of view.

We can hear tracks like “Arrogance”, “Theory of Conspiracy”, “Deception”, “Intolerance Means War”, “Failed System”, and “Hostages”, that sound like thrash metal should sound, with tremendous riffs slaying their way through, along with a killer drumming, and a voice shrieking out, that it will definitely make some heads bang. The listener also have a track in Portuguese called “Guerra Santa”, which speaks about those who wage war in the name of religion (terrible isn’t it?). In “Cyberwar” we can hear a nice pumping bass that develops into a great song about people who think they’re social network cops, always looking around the corner to start a hate speech against someone else just because they don’t agree with something that was said (is there anything useful in that?).

The album ends with “Wayfarer”, showing Fernanda singing clean vocals with a bluesy side, which will definitely surprise the listener. Mixed and mastered by Andy Classen, this is a very good thrash album with chunky and crisp old school moments, produced by Brendan Duffey, who gives the album a sharp and clearer sound, not leaving behind the vintage feeling that we look to find in a thrash metal record. Nervosa are not a promise anymore, they’re here to stay.
